If you are someone who has had Multi-Factor Authentication enabled for their Office 365 profile, please follow the guide below for setting up.
- When MFA is enabled, you will be signed out of all your devices. On your desktop browser, head to www.office.com and sign in.
- After you type your password in correctly, you will see a screen saying, "More Information Required". Press Next to proceed.
- On the next screen, under step 1, select the drop down and pick "Mobile app". The screen will change and a box will appear with the text, "How do you want to use the mobile app?". Select the bottom option, "Use verification code". On the bottom, click the blue, "Set up", button.
- After you hit, "Set Up", you will see a pop up appear with a set of instructions. Follow them and hit Next.
- When you hit next, it will verify that the mobile app has been configured correctly. Be patient as this can take up to a minuet to complete. Once it does, you will see the text, "up Mobile app has been configured for notifications and verification codes.". Click next.
- Open your mobile Microsoft Authenticator app. The app will display a box with your account and a six digit code below it. This code refreshes every 30 seconds. Enter your displayed code in the next box and hit Verify.
- On the next screen, you will be asked to enter in a phone number as a backup. Select your country code in the drop down, enter your number, and hit next.
- On the next screen, an "app password" is generated for you. Some applications, like the Outlook app on Windows, don't fully support MFA. To get around this, an app password is generated for you. You will need to use this password IN PLACE OF YOUR NORMAL PASSWORD in order to log into apps like Outlook (Only for Microsoft Desktop) or if you use a mail client on your phone other than Outlook. Hit the copy icon and find a secure place to paste this password and save it for future use. You can always view this code in the future from another page.
One copied and saved, hit, "Done".
At this point you have set up MFA. From now on, whenever you need to sign into a Microsoft app/service, you will be prompted to enter in a six digit code from your Authenticator app or you will need to use your app password.
