What is MFA?

Despite our best efforts to keep our applications and services secure, passwords can be compromised. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds another layer of protection by also requiring a temporary generated token from a mobile app.

How to enroll in Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication

  1. When MFA is enabled, you will be signed out of all your devices. On your desktop browser, head to wwwGo to web Outlook https://outlook.office.com and sign in.
  2. After you type entering your password in correctly, you will see a screen sayingthe following message, "More Information Required". Press Next to proceed.




  3. On the next screen, under step In Step 1, select the drop down and pick "Mobile app". The screen will change and a box will appear with the text, "How do you want to use the mobile app?". Select the bottom option,
    1. Select "Use verification code" option.
    On the bottom, click the
    1. Click the blue, "Set up", button.

  4. Next you'll see instructions on downloading and installing the mobile app. Please download Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone and continue.

  5. Once you see the message "After you hit, "Set Up", you will see a pop up appear with a set of instructions. Follow them and hit Next.

    When you hit next, it will verify that the mobile app has been configured correctly. Be patient as this can take up to a minuet to complete. Once it does, you will see the text, "up Mobile app has been configured for notifications and verification codes." . Click next.



  6. Open your mobile Microsoft Authenticator app. The app will display a box with your account and a six digit code below it. This code refreshes every 30 seconds. Enter your displayed code in the next box and hit click Verify.



  7. On the next screen, you You will be asked to enter in a phone number as a backup. Select your country code in the drop down, enter
    1. Enter your mobile number, and hit next.
  8. On the next screen, an "app passwordAn "App Password" is generated for you. Some applications , like the Outlook app on Windows, don't fully support MFA. To get around this, an app password is generated for you. You will need to use this password IN PLACE OF YOUR NORMAL PASSWORD in order to log into apps like Outlook (Only for Microsoft Desktop) or if you use a mail client on your phone other than Outlook. Hit the copy icon and find a secure place to paste this password and save it for future use. You can always view this code in the future from another page.
    One copied and saved, hit, "Done".

  1. Outlook desktop need this "app password" for authentication. Please copy this password for logging into your desktop Outlook client.

When you sign-in from another workstation or web Outlook you will be prompted to enter
